For the first time in history, Estonia will host the Nordic Folkboat Gold Cup

This summer, for the very first time since 1963, the competition will be hosted in Estonia. Kalev Yacht Club in Tallinn Bay will welcome all the sailors and fans on the first week of august.

The opening ceremony of the competition will take place on the first of August, followed by five competition days. On August 3rd, there has been planned a rest day with a fun culture program. And an additional Start-Up Regatta for investors and aspiring entrepreneurs to meet. Two days before the competition, it is also possible to take part in Pre-Race for some warm up. Kalev Yacht Club, which will host the competitors during the competition, was given the opportunity to organize the Gold Cup already in 2021, but the event was cancelled due to the corona crisis. Now the plan has been taken up again and intensive preparations are in progress. 70 teams from Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, UK and the United States are expected to participate.

Helery Pops, one of the main organizers, comments: "Organizing a sailing competition of this magnitude is a first for both me and Kai (Kai Isand - main organizer), but having worked for two years with the Startup Regatta, we knew that this is one of the most exciting projects we could get involved in." "So it was a great joy when Mikk Köösel invited us to the organization team and we will do our best to make the first Folkboats Gold Cup in Estonia unforgettable."

"Folkboats have a long history in Estonia and the sailing community of this boat is large compared to our population, so it was only a matter of time before the competition reached Estonia," adds Mikk Köösel, Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Folkboat Fleet.
